Passing Muntenia

stories and observations from the Carpathian Mountains

This series offers a nuanced exploration of the contemporary Romanian landscape, in-between Transylvania (the Land Beyond the Forest) and Muntenia (the Land of Mountains) . The images focus on the transformations this region has undergone since 1989. Following the railway Line300 between Brașov and Bucharest, we traverse the Prahova Valley. This river supplied water to numerous factories, most of which have now disappeared. The whole valley is transitioning from an industrial economy toward a tourist-oriented mountain resort. Such pattern appears in many post-industrial regions and post-socialist countries in Eastern Europe.
